Katzenjammer
Kollection of Konceptual Art
October, 2002 FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
During the Art Basel and Art Miami Art
Fairs Kitty and Herb Katzenjammer generously
opened the doors of their private Kollection to the Public.
The renowned Katzenjammer Kollection is widely regarded as one of the most important Kollections
Of Kontemporary Konceptual Art in Florida and
the world.
Including such famous artists as Kee
Pooh Kah, Nan Kulligan, Donna
Koechler , Thomas Kraff and
Kiki Karl, the Katzenjammer Kollection is a stronghold of prestige and influence, and is nothing
short of a testimonial to the extraordinary taste and
knowledge of its proprietors, Kitty and Herb Katzenjammer.
Bitten by the art bug after accidentally
wandering into the landmark avant-gardist exhibit SENSATION mounted by the Saatchi Public Relations Moguls at the
British Royal Academy in1999, Kitty and Herb Katzenjammer
have been collecting cutting edge art ever since.
In 2001, after a profound period of introspection and
eventual consultation with a host of internationally important
curators and dealers, the Katzenjammers decided to concentrate
exclusively on artists whose names begin with the letter
‘K’.
A year later their unique Kollection is
exhibited the world over and may soon be set up as a private
museum with a temporary exhibition program where the Katzenjammers
can exercise the magic touch that has characterized their
voyage into art.
The exhibition of selected work from the
Katzenjammer Kollection was curated by
their private curator, the famous Viennese art writer
Brunte Klaz, and will include the well known portrait
of the Katzenjammers by photographer Thomas Kraff; The
giant photo has been described as an important work by
an important artist.
Also included is an installation by Kiki
Karl, whose well known iconography is clearly a unique
contribution to the dialogue of contemporary art.
The Kollectors are thrilled to have the
exclusive work by emerging artist John Luke Kerry,
whose smiley face – mailbox pipe bomb piece literally
exploded on the scene this past season, catapulting this
artist to national prominence. As per usual these days,
the Katzenjammers seem to have gotten there first.
No less compelling a response to disturbing
trends in contemporary culture is the testes and ovary
piece by Middle Eastern Artist Karim al Zog,
or the ungraspably profound work of Anorra Kawani.
Art lovers will also undoubtedly respond
to Donna Koechler’s magical appropriations
of cultural constructs or Kee Pooh Kah’s lead balloon, a complex interplay of object and subject
if there ever was one.
More sobering are the post-Marxist, post-Feminist,
post-Black photos by Nan Kulligan, or
the deep implications of the photo oeuvre of Hilary
Krump.
Demonstrating the Katzenjammer’s
interest in the local scene, the Kollection also includes
the work of emerging Miami artist Pablo Quepeno;
(The Spanish alphabet doesn’t include the letter
‘K’).
